Appointments

   

All of us at Terra Nova appreciate your patience and understanding whilst we work to provide a safe and effective service throughout the Covid-19 crisis.

 

We must keep the number of people attending the practice to a minimum and we cannot let people walk in as before. To maintain high standards of hygiene, any occupied areas in the practice must be disinfected after use.

 

As before, all appointment requests are initially triaged by our trained patient advisers. The difference now is that we initially offer telephone appointments rather than face to face. We are fortunate to have a variety of specialists who may be better suited than a GP to help you, for example with pharmacy, psychology and physiotherapy to name a few. Our patient advisers can give you more details on accessing these services or you can check out our website.

 

We would encourage you to call us from 08:00 each morning if you require an appointment. If available appointments are filled, you may be asked to call again the following morning.

 

You may be given an appointment time for a telephone consultation. The clinician will aim to call as close to that time as possible. We are finding that many problems can be dealt with on the telephone and, if not, we will arrange an online (video) or face to face appointment at the clinician’s discretion. When you get the call from us it may show as “unknown” on your telephone.  However, if you miss your telephone consultation, you may be advised to contact the practice the following day. We will try to call you at least twice.

 

We may ask you to provide photographs where clinically appropriate. This has proved useful and forms part of your clinical notes. You will be provided with a secure email address to send your photographs. This is a “no reply” address, which means we receive your pictures and can transfer them to your notes, but we are unable to reply to you.

 

We would encourage you not to attend a face to face appointment early as you may need to wait outside until your appointment time. We reserve access to our most vulnerable patients who may need to wait inside. Again, to reduce numbers of people in the practice, we ask that you come on your own if possible.  Alert us on your arrival using the doorbell and wait outside using the markers provided. This will leave sufficient space for other visitors to alert us to their arrival. We ask that you wear a face covering to protect other patients and staff, and use the hand sanitiser provided.

 

These measures have allowed us to continue to provide a safe service to our patients throughout these challenging times.

Prescriptions

You should nominate a pharmacy to collect your prescriptions on your behalf.  We offer online reordering of repeat items.  Please ask a patient adviser for more details on setting this up for you.
