First point of contact for eye problems

Contact an optometrist in the first instance, particularly in an emergency.  They have a legal duty to see you within a reasonable period of time or should find another optometrist  for you if they are unable to offer an appointment.

As examples of what should be seen by the optometrist the same day:

  • Red and sore eye with light sensitivity
  • Sudden onset flashers and floaters
  • Sudden change in vision
  • Corneal abrasion or foreign body
